Al-Rumailah Combined Cycle Power Plant

The project is in Basra governate south of Iraq, approximately 50 km to the west of Basra city and the area of the power station is 340 Acres. The Simple cycle gas turbine station which was constructed previously belongs to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity (MOE). The existing simple cycle gas turbine power plant is composed of five (5) units of Siemens Model gas turbine SGT5 PAC 4000F &Gas Generator SGen5-1000A designed for 293 MW each and the total capacity of the Simple Cycle Power Plant is 1465MW, and this plant runs on Natural Gas.

  • The project is expanded by adding an environmentally friendly combined cycle with a capacity of 730MW. The Combined cycle belongs to Kar Electrical Power Production Trading FZE (KEPPT), contracts have been made with Siemens, Germany for supplying Steam Turbine and Generators and MHPS Dongfeng Boiler to supply Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and the Balance of the Plant Equipment (BOP) has been provided from the various country according to approved specifications.
  • On 18th April 2018, the Construction of this project was awarded to RAZ with installation, civil, temporary works, water intake civil and erection, security, pipeline, and camp management. The project has reached total excavation works up to 500,000M³, sand gravel and backfilling around 260,000M³ with total pouring concrete and reinforcement up to 67,000M³, Road length around 7km. The steel structure of 8000 Ton, Equipment installation 430 set, piping 1800 DI, underground piping 22,500 M, Electrical cable 760 KM, cable tray 12200 set, panel 353 set, and manpower (local and international) 1600 person/day.
  • The combined cycle units have been successfully completed and it is generating power to supply to the Ministry of Electricity, Iraq according to the terms and conditions of the Power Purchase Agreement help to improve the efficiency and reliability of the Iraqi electrical grid system by producing additional electrical power without extra fuel consumption depending on exhaust gases of the simple cycle gas station.
